The Government of Tanzania has officially announced a massive $12.9 billion investment roadmap for the energy sector. This strategic move, shared during the 2026 Powering Africa Summit, is designed to eliminate power shortages and position the nation as a premier energy exporter within the East African Community (EAC) and SADC regions.

Deputy Minister for Energy, Hon. Salome Makamba, stated that the funds will be directed toward stabilizing the national grid, expanding rural electrification, and accelerating the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Lindi. The plan also emphasizes a transition toward cleaner energy sources to meet global climate standards.

Key Pillars of the Strategy:

  • Infrastructure Modernization: Upgrading aging transmission lines to reduce technical power loss.
  • Renewable Energy Diversification: Scaling up solar and wind projects in the central regions.
  • Natural Gas Expansion: Increasing domestic gas utilization for industrial heating and cooking.

This initiative aligns with President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of making energy the backbone of Tanzania's "Blue Economy" and industrial revolution.
