A group of 32 elite Tanzanian students has officially departed for the University of Limerick in Ireland to pursue specialized degrees in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Science. This is part of the prestigious Samia Extended Scholarship Programme, which targets the nation's brightest minds in STEM fields.
The Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Adolf Mkenda, bid the students farewell, emphasizing that they are the pioneers of Tanzania's digital future. Upon their return, these scholars are expected to lead innovations in agriculture, healthcare, and fintech, applying AI to solve local challenges.
The program is a key part of the government's strategy to bridge the digital skills gap and ensure Tanzania remains competitive in an increasingly automated global economy.
