The new reforms aim to create a predictable and friendly environment for investors.

The Presidential Commission on Tax Reforms, chaired by Ambassador Ombeni Sefue, has submitted a comprehensive report featuring 284 recommendations aimed at overhauling Tanzania's tax landscape. The report is a response to long-standing calls from the private sector for a more predictable and less aggressive tax regime.

The proposals focus on simplifying compliance for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), digitizing tax collection to eliminate human interference, and broadening the tax base without over-burdening existing taxpayers. Business leaders in Dar es Salaam have expressed optimism that these changes will significantly lower the cost of doing business.

"A transparent tax system is the best incentive we can give to both local and foreign investors. We are moving from a punitive approach to a collaborative one," noted a senior official from the Ministry of Finance.
